How's this place work?

If you could take a little mental holiday and go to any imaginary place, where would you go?
And what would you do while you were there?

Send me a postcard, handmade or otherwise, from an imaginary location. It can be a place from a book or a movie or a piece of music, or some other world you made up. On the other side, write and tell me what you've been doing on your vacation from reality.

All postcards to be addressed to:

Soozcat
Wish I Were Here

I'll scan a selection of postcards and post them to the blog for all and sundry to enjoy.

Postcard the fifth: NicoLab

This card was received late last night.

In retrospect, I probably should have handled it with gloves. Hmm.

Stan writes [with some interpolations]:
"Hey there! Writing from the lab again. It's been a long couple of months down here. We're doing testing on the nanites ag[ain], but [we] just can't nail down what the problem is. One minute they'll be clearing the oil, next one they don't distin[gui]sh target chemicals [at] all and we've gotta fry 'em. Step[h] [t]hinks they're 'aware' or some non[sense,] that we should shut down [the] proj[ect] entirely! How can we possib[ly sh]ut it down though? After that oil spill we've got an obligation to get our act tog[ether].

See you for Christmas"

Thanks for writing, Stan, and I hope you make it to Christmas in one piece. (Speaking of pieces, where's my index finger gone?)

  1. I love your project idea! And I totally intend to participate - I just need to decide on where it will be sent from. Actually... i've just had a brain wave - are alternate/fantasy versions of real-world places acceptable? Because if so, my furry and fictional friend Aurelia will send you one from Madigaska, the island of lemurs.

Out of curiosity - what percentage of cards received are you actually putting up on your blog?

    Cheers
    Angela

    1. Hi, Angela, and welcome!

To date I've posted nearly every card I have received. I do reserve the right not to post a card just in case I receive a questionable item in the mail (I try to keep things fairly family-friendly, since a few kids read this blog).

To answer your question: Yes, alternate versions of real-world places are perfectly acceptable, and a card from Madigaska sounds like fun! Looking forward to it.
